About
CiteRefs
The founder of CiteRefs
is Neil W. Webre, Emeritus Professor of Computer Science, Cal Poly, San Luis
Obispo, CA. Neil holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physics from LSU
and Harvard, respectively. He worked in the field of computational particle
physics for ten years at Brookhaven National Lab, Columbia University, and the
Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics (Munich). He was a professor
of computer science at Cal Poly for 24 years. Since his "retirement", he has
been very active in software design and development.
His wife was editing a
friend's APA-formatted dissertation as a favor, and she asked him if a computer
couldn't be programmed to check the citations since the paper had over 350
references and over 500 citations. Following a "red flag in front of a bull"
reaction, a rough prototype was developed and worked wonderfully. Development of
a finished product and the web site followed. CiteRefs'
unique analysis software and the citerefs.com web site are the end results.
CiteRefs'
audience is almost exclusively the academic world. The aim of CiteRefs
is to provide a solid time-saving service, as well as quality
enhancement of published research papers, dissertations, and theses. For the
time being, analysis by CiteRefs
is free of charge.
